HAMMACHER SCHLEMMER INSTALLS A NEW SYSTEM FOR DROP-SHIPPING LAST FALL
Before the new system, Hammacher would print the packing slips and send them overnight to the drop-ship vendors, keeping spreadsheets and other paperwork to track the orders and reconcile them with the vendors and accounting.  What a nightmare it was to track orders for customers before this new system.

DROP-SHIPPING MADE ME MORE MONEY
While most catalogers handle fulfillment inhouse, and only a small percentage contract out for fulfillment services, some marketers drop-ship merchandise, or have the merchandise vendor ship the goods directly to the customer. Business catalogers appear more likely to drop-ship: b-to-b respondents say that a mean of 23.7% of dollar sales comes from drop-shipped items. Consumer respondents report a mean of only 6.8% of dollar sales from drop-shipped items, and for hybrids, a mean of 18.9% of sales come from drop-ships.

COSTS ARE CRITICAL TO YOUR BUSINESS, WHAT SOME ENTREPRENEURS ARE DOING ABOUT IT
Costs, costs, and more costs weighed heavily on respondents' minds. A whopping 88% cited the need to cut costs without reducing offerings and services as a top concern. Rising distribution costs and rising package-delivery costs were other worrisome issues, cited by 59% and 58% of respondents respectively in a recent survey.

Looking at financial perfomance against expectations, it's clear why many have taken this opportunity to review their business and find ways of reducing costs. Automating formerly manual tasks through software has been a prime area of interest. With all the advancements in integrated systems and internet communication allows for better cost control and a reduction in manual effort.  This not only improves the quality of your order fulfillment but also improves your bottom line.
